Jonathan Kuminga and the Golden State Warriors have not come to terms on a contract extension yet.
Kuminga was drafted seventh overall in 2021, and there were high hopes for him to play a big part in the Warriors’ future plans.
While the franchise stuck by him for a while, things changed after they brought in Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat. Since then, Kuminga’s role has diminished, leaving his future with the team uncertain.
Much of the criticism has been directed at head coach Steve Kerr, who never seemed to fully back Kuminga. Now, with talks over an extension stalled, it is unclear how things will play out between player and club.
One of the main reasons the Warriors have been quiet this offseason is their struggle to agree on terms with Kuminga. Reports suggest he is seeking a $30 million deal from the team.
Those reports were backed up by NBA insider Marc Stein, who confirmed that Kuminga is looking for that kind of payday.
Jonathan Kuminga is said to be looking for a contract in the $30M/year range, per @TheSteinLine.

But how does Dub Nation feel about this? Most fans aren’t too keen on matching Kuminga’s price tag.
“That’s not happening,” one fan said. Another chimed in: “He’ll likely find it right next to Noah’s Ark.”
“He’s not worth that type of money,” a third added, while another commented, “Honestly, nobody even cares anymore.”
“Man, all this speculation and rumours are getting exhausting,” wrote another fan.
A lot of fans seem either fed up or simply do not see Kuminga as someone who deserves that kind of salary. For reference, he put up 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game last season.
Even with the NBA’s rising salaries, Stephen Curry has been vocal about how the new CBA is built to limit top-end contracts. Kuminga seems to be holding a similar stance, standing firm in negotiations with Golden State.
The Warriors’ quiet offseason can largely be traced back to their ongoing standoff with Kuminga. Until there is resolution, it’s tough for the front office to make any meaningful moves.
At this stage, a split might be best for both sides. As Austin Rivers noted recently, Golden State has not shown much interest in developing Kuminga into a featured piece of their future plans.
Kuminga also does not appear eager to tie himself long-term to a franchise that is not fully behind him. This isn’t an easy situation for either side.
