Two superstars dueling it out is one of the best reasons to enjoy NBA basketball. The San Antonio Spurs 113-110 win over the Denver Nuggets on Friday night featured such an instance.
Nikola Jokic and Victor Wembanyama went toe-to-toe with two excellent individual performances. The Nuggets superstar finished the game with 41 points, 18 rebounds, and nine assists. Meanwhile, the Spurs superstar countered with 35 points of his own, to go with 18 rebounds and four assists.
Wembanyama even delivered a crucial block on Jokic, when the game was 111-110 in favor of the Spurs, to help seal the deal in San Antonio's favor. After the superstar showdown, the three-time MVP could not help but toss some hefty praise in the direction of the Spurs sophomore sensation, saying "he's better this year."
"I think he's better this year than last year," Jokic told reporters at the post-game press conference. "He's going to get even better [with] experience, how his body is changing, [and] learning the plays. He has really good veterans in his team right now to help him grow."
Jokic capped off the statement with this nugget: "I think he's a special player, I think he's going to be one of a kind, and one that's going to be remembered forever."
This will surely not be the last time that these two elite basketball players will have a chance to wow the NBA audience.
These two teams will not have to wait long to see each other again. They will face each other once again on Saturday, with the Spurs being the home team this time. If Wembanyama leads San Antonio to another win, it will be worth paying attention to what Jokic has to say, yet again.
