Reports from respected NBA media members indicated a championship reunion between Kevin Durant and the Golden State Warriors. However, since such a buzz occurred, Durant mustn't have appreciated playing another game with Draymond Green, as now the rumor is squashed. The Warriors shifted their trade focus following the report regarding Durant's disinterest.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein , the "Warriors have shifted their trade focus to acquiring Miami Heat's Jimmy Butler."

Despite recent reports claiming Butler isn't interested in Golden State, perhaps due to the franchise not wishing to sign the disgruntled star long-term.

Stein initially reported Durant's disinterest in the Warriors as a trade destination. The NBA insider then reported that he'd stay with the Phoenix Suns or be traded to the Miami Heat.

According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, "everything is on the table" in a trade with the Warriors, aside from Stephen Curry. But if everything is available, perhaps the Warriors realize Green hindered acquiring Durant, thus leading them to change course for another player, even if it means possibly being willing to let their defensive star go in a trade.

However, trading for 35-year-old Butler doesn't solve all of Golden State's problems. Nonetheless, reports indicate the Warriors are willing to risk losing Butler in free agency to give Curry a chance at a deep run in the 2025 playoffs.

Although the report doesn't outright state the Warriors want Green gone, reading deeper into Durant's departure and his on-court confrontation with the problematic power forward suggests why the star would rather stay with Phoenix than experience such a headache again.

However, the Warriors' asset pool pales in comparison to teams such as the Houston Rockets, and their young players haven't blossomed anything that equates to first-round pick compensation.

Theoretically, for Golden State to beat rival front offices in trade negotiations, it must exhaust all options.

Multiple reports suggest the Warriors are on the phone with numerous teams in light of their activity at the trade deadline. These actions speak to their lack of belief in the roster outside of Curry. If the team fails to trade for a star by the deadline, it will likely miss the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
