NBA fans will soon see New Orleans Pelicans rookie Jeremiah Fears in action during the preseason.
The New Orleans Pelicans may have found their next big star with their seventh overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Jeremiah Fears.
Despite Fears’ young age, the 6’4″ point guard has already impressed Pelicans head coach Willie Green. How? Thanks to his Summer League performance.
Many have blamed a lack of winning culture for the Pelicans’ lack of success in the loaded Western Conference.
Be it their current star, Zion Williamson, or previous stars like Brandon Ingram and CJ McCollum, they have all faced these allegations.
However, the Pelicans are now ushering toward a new era, one where Fears will likely run the offense of the team. Coach Green predicts great things for Fears because of his phenomenal mentality as a player.
“He has a no-quit mentality. He doesn’t back down from anybody. I saw that starting in the Summer League,” Green said after the Pelicans’ win over SE Melbourne Phoenix.
He added: “And again, he’s 18 years old, doing what he’s doing at this level, extremely difficult to do. He’s confident. He works at it. Again, he’s one of those guys we’re going to see continue to get better.”
Green’s statement is spot on and Fears has already proven that. He grew up as a life-long Stephen Curry fan, but recently changed his stance.
Why? Fears now sees Curry as one of his competitors in the NBA rather than an idol.
While the Pelicans are yet to play in the preseason against NBA teams, the franchise has locked horns with SE Melbourne Phoenix.
The two sides’ recent clash concluded with NOLA’s humongous 127-92 win. Speaking of the matchup, Fears was one of five Pelicans players to finish the night with double-digit points.
To be precise, Fears finished the night with 12 points, 1 rebound, and 3 assists in nearly 24 minutes of playing time.
Another factor that made the performance excellent was Fears shooting 50% from the field. But can he continue playing at this level? Only time will tell.
