After 100 career NBA games, San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama had taken and made more 3-pointers than Stephen Curry did in his first 100 appearances. Wembanyama is a transformative prospect on both ends of the floor, and the league has never seen a center shoot quite like he does while also being in the running for Defensive Player of the Year.
Curry is the greatest shooter of all time, and Wembanyama has the potential to be the best player of all time, which has helped link the two in legacy comparisons.
However, one of Curry's most accomplished teammates, Draymond Green, thinks Wembanyama isn't "relatable" like Curry is.
"One of the reasons Steph has had such a large impact on the game that he had is because he looked like he’s everybody’s size," said Green on his self-titled podcast. "Everybody thinks ‘I can be Steph, I can do that regardless of how athletic I am. I can learn to shoot the ball.'"
Wembanyama, on the other hand, brings a skillset that can't be replicated in pick-up runs at the park or in the driveway.
While the average person, obviously, can't shoot 40 percent in an NBA game like Curry can, in a local YMCA game, an average Joe can get hot. However, no one in a local gym can pull up from the logo and then pin a shot to the backboard like Wembanyama can.
Green has a point. While Curry's shot is the result of years of hard work and training, it looks effortless, and Wembanyama's success is simply incomparable.
