Will Richard joined the Golden State Warriors as the 56th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Originally, the Memphis Grizzlies held that pick, but the San Francisco team acquired it during the draft process.

This season, the 22-year-old will have the opportunity to play alongside Stephen Curry – one of his biggest career ambitions.

Curry’s influence on the modern game can’t be overstated, especially given how he changed the way teams value the three-point shot.

Plenty of young players coming into the league have modelled their game after Curry, and Richard is no different.

Speaking to 95.7 The Game, Richard said: “For me, that was my favourite player growing up, him and Klay [Thompson]. That [meeting him] was definitely a top three moment in my life.”

He went on to say: “He came up to me, shook my hand, ‘Welcome to the Bay, we’re happy to have you and I’m excited to work with you.’

“That meant a lot, it’s motivation. To hear that from a guy that you grew up watching, grew up loving, grew up wanting to be like, that was definitely some motivation.”

Looking back at Will Richard’s time in college basketball

It’s not often that players picked late in the second round end up having long NBA careers. The odds are stacked against them from the start.

But it’s not out of reach either, especially for someone like Will Richard, who put together an impressive four-year run at Belmont.

Over 141 games with the Bruins, he averaged 11.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game while shooting a respectable 46.3% from the floor.
