The Phoenix Suns close outs its Summer League schedule tonight against the Portland Trail Blazers. Phoenix enters the matchup 1-3, while Portland is 3-1. Saturday’s game will be the final test for the Suns rookie and 2nd-year players before being thrown into an NBA environment. The first four games have been a mixed bag for Phoenix’s young players, with many following a great performance with a mediocre one.

However, it isn’t how you start, it’s how you finished and these players have an opportunity to leave a lasting impression before the start of the NBA season in three months.

What to look out for Suns vs. Trail Blazers:

Ryan Dunn is coming off his worst performance in Summer League, shooting 3-for-13 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Against the Trail Blazers, Dunn will need to prove that Wednesday’s game was a fluke. The 22-year-old averaged 17.5 points and 5.5 rebounds before the disastrous last game. His defense and shooting has been superb and will need to bounce back against a Portland team that lacks any wing defenders to check Dunn.

10th overall pick Khaman Maluach hasn’t had a breakout performance yet in Las Vegas. In his first three games, Maluach averaged 10.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks. The lottery pick hasn’t shot the ball well, with zero games shooting above 40% in Summer League. Head coach DeMarre Carroll has stated he wanted Maluach to shoot more 3-pointers and the result hasn’t been pretty.

However, the South Sudan native will face another premier big man in Yang Hansen and could use the matchup to make a statement. At 7’2, Maluach hasn’t dominated the paint as expected but his time will come with more reps.

After being the Suns best player in its first two games, 2nd-round pick Koby Brea likely had the worst shooting night of his career, going one-for-nine from the field against the Sacramento Kings. Brea sat out last game against the Timberwolves and will appear in the finale, which he could put a stamp on a statement Summer League stint.

Brea averaged 17.0 points on 70+ true shooting percentage in his first two games, getting comparisons to Devin Booker with his style of play. The Trail Blazers perimeter defense will be one of the best he faces in Vegas and will be a true test if his elite shot making and creation is real.
