What’s going on with AJ Dybantsa’s ankle injury?

The Washington Wizards have started off playing well this season, and they’ve done so without the No. 1 overall pick. AJ Dybantsa hasn’t made his NBA debut yet as he deals with an ankle injury, and it looks like he’ll have to keep waiting after the latest update on his status, according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.

“AJ Dybantsa will remain sidelined heading into the second week of the season with his ankle injury. Wizards listed him out vs. Charlotte for tomorrow night’s game, his fourth straight absence to begin the year,” Siegel wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Dybantsa suffered the ankle injury in the final preseason game against the New Orleans Pelicans after landing awkwardly on Zion Williamson. Head coach Brian Keefe noted that the injury wasn’t serious, which leaves hope that Dybantsa will play soon. At the same time, the Wizards want to make sure that they’re being cautious with the rookie early in the season so he doesn’t make anything worse.

For now, the Wizards will roll with the young guys they have on the team to fill his void, as well as veterans such as Trae Young and Anthony Davis.

Young and Davis have already been leading the young guys on the team, and they’re pouring into players like Dybantsa already. Young recently spoke about the advice he’s given to Dybantsa as he navigates the pressure of being a No. 1 pick.

“Obviously, it’s easy to focus on yourself and try to make your mark. But I think the easiest way to find success early is focusing on the team’s success. Finding out where you fit in and where you can stand out too,” Young said. “So I think coming in and just finding your ways to fit in with the team is the best way to be the best version of yourself. So that would be the best advice I could give.”
