When Former Kings Star De'Aaron Fox Could Debut for San Antonio Spurs

The Sacramento Kings recently made the tough decision to trade their star point guard De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs.

Sacramento pulled off the blockbuster three-team trade on Sunday that saw Fox head to his preferred destination of San Antonio. The Chicago Bulls were also part of the deal as they sent Zach LaVine to the Kings.

Of course, while it was a tough decision to make for the Kings, it was one that was inevitable to happen after they made him available for trade early last week. Fox had not committed to a future in Sacramento, so the Kings decided to move him to add another star in LaVine form the Bulls along with six draft picks, including three first-round picks.

With Fox now with the Spurs, the question that remains is when will he make his debut in the silver and black?

It is expected that Fox will make his Spurs’ debut in their matchup against the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday. The 27-year-old will suit up alongside Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama along with the rest of their young roster.

Spurs acting head coach Mitch Johnson recently commented on what it means to add Fox to their lineup, and it is clear that they are excited about his eventual debut.

"It is dynamic,” Spurs acting coach Mitch Johnson said of adding Fox to the lineup. "We're looking forward to adding him to the group and continuing to grow. And trying to maximize and help these guys play off each other."

With the Spurs adding Fox to their roster, they have now created a star duo of him and Wembanyama. They also have a solid young core consisting of Stephon Castle, Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan and Keldon Johnson along with their veterans of Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes.

While the Spurs are excited to add Fox and make a playoff push, the Kings will now have to figure out how to play without their All-Star guard. They did defeat the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday 116-114 in their first matchup without Fox, and they should continue to climb their way up the Western Conference standings once LaVine joins them.
