The Golden State Warriors’ ownership and front office are finally panicking, and it’s a good thing.
After all, the Golden State Warriors currently have an abysmal 13-15 record during the 2025-26 NBA season.
Be it Steve Kerr or Stephen Curry, all share the blame for the Dubs’ poor performance this season, and if nothing changes, the franchise is undoubtedly heading towards another disappointing campaign.
Keeping that in mind, Warriors owner Joe Lacob is reportedly considering moving some of the team’s future draft assets to enter a win-now mode.
For the past few years, the Warriors have struggled because of the top brass’ insistence on their two-timeline strategy.
But with the Dubs’ relationship deteriorating with Jonathan Kuminga, the franchise may finally be ready to part ways with him. That’s not all, as the Warriors have multiple tradeable first-round draft picks.
Speaking of which, Warriors insider Anthony Slater reports Lacob could start putting those picks in potential trades within the next 30 days.
“Post-Steph Curry era picks, the golden nuggets. I think it’s gonna become a talking point over the next month and, Joe’s vision of the next decade, compared to the urgency of the moment,” Slater stated.
He added: “He [Joe Lacob] is an involved owner in decision-making, and right now, it’s fair to question some of the grander roster-building decision-making, and that can get us to the front office.”
Right now, Curry is 37 years old, but the way he’s playing, the Baby-Faced Assassin will likely remain a top NBA star for a couple of years.
Moreover, Curry is under contract until the end of the 2026-27 season. So, if the Warriors want to trade their draft picks post-2027 NBA Draft, now would be an excellent time.
It would instantly make the Warriors an NBA Championship contender, albeit in exchange for giving up on their foreseeable future.
The most obvious trade target for the Warriors would be Giannis Antetokounmpo, as the 2x NBA MVP is reportedly expected to be traded sooner rather than later.
