Who in Knicks History Will Retire Soon?

Not many people can work at the age of 91. However, one New York Knicks legend set expectations high for any advanced-aged employee. ESPN president Burke Magnus revealed his plan for legendary NBA color commentator Hubie Brown on the SI Media With Jimmy Traina podcast.

“We are going to give Hubie one last shot on a game,” Magnus said on the podcast. “He deserves that. We think the world of him. I think it’s absolutely remarkable the level he still calls games at age 90-plus.”

Brown spent the last 20 years of his life calling games for ESPN. Despite lacking a catchphrase or refusing to spew questionable hot takes, Brown's genuine approach to the game of basketball endears fans to the national treasure of a basketball ambassador.

Brown catches viewers' attention without loud, abrasive commentary by explaining the game's action like a caring teacher sans the preachy approach. The beauty of Brown's commentary lies in the facts, not the fluff.

Before Brown educated NBA fans, he spent 30 years as a head coach, including 344 games for the Knicks. Brown's coaching led the Knicks to two consecutive playoff appearances.

Even at an advanced age, Brown calls games without stuttering or messing up players' names. Frankly, people half his age can't say the same.

Although ESPN didn't publicly announce which game will be his last, Brown deserves to go out calling a great matchup. Perhaps the Jalen Brunson-led Knicks will receive such an honor.
