The Atlanta Hawks haven’t had much success in recent years in the NBA.

Despite having a cornerstone star in Trae Young, the Atlanta Hawks have missed the playoffs in back-to-back seasons.

However, it feels like the organization is in no rush to win the Larry O’Brien trophy, as they recently changed their head coach.

After all, Quin Snyder took over the Hawks’ coaching duties from Nate McMillan during the 2022-23 NBA season. Speaking of which, here’s a quick guide to coach Snyder’s NBA journey so far.

Quin Snyder’s NBA coaching experience

At 58 years old, Snyder is by no means an inexperienced head coach. With that said, Snyder already has three years of head coaching experience in Atlanta.

But what about his NBA journey before arriving in Atlanta? Well, coach Snyder enjoyed an eight-year spell as the head coach of the Utah Jazz.

During his tenure with the Jazz, the organization was one of the top teams in the Western Conference. The Jazz had a solid 372-264 record under Snyder as they also reached the postseason in six out of the eight seasons during his tenure.

Coach Snyder also finished second in the NBA’s Coach of the Year award during the 2017-18 season. Prior to that, Snyder also served as an assistant coach with the LA Lakers, LA Clippers, and Philadelphia 76ers.

All things considered, Snyder is a terrific coach, and the Hawks should certainly give him a real shot before rushing any decisions about his future in Atlanta.

Quin Snyder’s NCAA coaching experience

A key reason behind Snyder being considered a basketball savant is his combination of coaching experience in the NCAA and NBA.

Speaking of the former, Snyder spent seven seasons as the head coach of the Missouri Tigers in the Big 12. In his tenure, the Tigers reached the NCAA Tournament four times.

Overall, Snyder led the Tigers to a 126-91 record during his tenure as head coach. After leaving behind the Tigers in 2006, Snyder has been a mainstay in the NBA since 2010.
