The Los Angeles Clippers added reinforcement when they acquired star guard Bradley Beal. The three-time All-Star finalized his contract buyout with the Phoenix Suns and immediately joined the Clippers on a two-year, $11 million contract. Beal’s stint with the Suns might not be forgotten by fans too soon. During his two years with the team, he contributed to only one playoff appearance.
Additionally, the star dealt with various injuries, which limited his participation in many games for Phoenix. In both seasons, he only appeared in 53 games each. He also had trouble being the Suns’ go-to player, averaging only 17.6 points over the two seasons.
Since Beal also had to deal with trade speculations the previous season, it was evident that he had a difficult time with the Suns. However, the organization was unable to have him sent to another club. His no-trade clause prevented the front office from making a deal that involved him.
After the Los Angeles Clippers finalized the contract with Beal, the team’s president of basketball operations, Lawrence Frank, took a shot at the Suns. According to Frank, the former Washington Wizards have a better situation with their team since they have a prime facilitator in James Harden.
He also mentioned that Beal had success with other elite floor generals in the past, like John Wall and Russell Westbrook. In Phoenix, however, they didn’t have a traditional point guards who could’ve played well with the star.
“Not to take any sort of slight at Phoenix, but playing with James is a whole lot different than what their situation was,” Frank said. “Brad had great success playing with John Wall. He actually had great success playing with Russ.”

Fans are excited to see how Beal will look playing next to Harden and Kawhi Leonard.
James Harden was a major factor in the Los Angeles Clippers’ decision to acquire Beal. According to various reports, Harden served a key role in convincing the star guard to play in L.A. The president of basketball operations revealed that Harden spent 30 minutes talking to Mark Bartelstein, Beal’s agent.
“And, you know, we got permission through James’ agent, Mike Silverman, he was totally comfortable, so James spent over 30 minutes on the phone with Mark Bartelstein,” Frank said. “There aren’t many players who, one, would be willing to do it, and two, who would spend the time talking to another agent to explain why the Clippers are the best place for Brad. And, you know, it goes beyond that.”
Fortunately, whatever Harden told Beal’s agent played a significant role in securing him for the Los Angeles Clippers.
