Max Kellerman has sparked debate by claiming he would rather build a championship team around Cooper Flagg than Luka Doncic.
The comparison between an established NBA superstar and a rising teenage prospect may seem bold at first glance, but Kellerman’s reasoning goes beyond reputation and focuses on the qualities he believes translate directly to winning at the highest level.
It’s not about who is more talented overall. Instead, it is about what wins championships.
Kellerman shared his take during a discussion on the Game Over podcast, where he compared the two players in terms of impact and play style. His argument centered on two-way ability and defensive versatility.
Kellerman said, “I would rather have Cooper Flagg over Luka. I like his style of play. I think Luka is a better playmaker, but Luka isn’t a defender.
“Cooper is excellent. Cooper Flagg is one of these actual-can-defend 1-5 level players.”
The distinction highlights what Kellerman values most: a player who can influence both ends of the floor at an elite level.
Kellerman expanded on his view by explaining why Flagg’s profile fits what he considers a title-winning formula.
Kellerman added, “He’s athletic and has the style I like, which can lead to winning a championship. He can be the best player on a championship team. I would say he’s the best teenager since LeBron.”
The statement places Flagg in rare company, suggesting his potential goes beyond that of a typical prospect.
For Kellerman, the combination of defense, athleticism, and versatility makes Flagg a more complete foundation for a championship team, even when compared to one of the league’s most dominant offensive players.
