Another blockbuster deal is on the way: Anthony Davis is going to the Washington Wizards in an 8-player deal, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Davis along with D’Angelo Russell, Jaden Hardy, and Dante Exum will move to the Wizards in exchange for 2 first-round picks, 3 second-round picks, Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, and Malaki Branham

ANALYSIS: This move signals a new era for Washington, who are accelerating up their rebuild by acquiring all-NBA big man Davis. They have also traded for Trae Young earlier in the season to pair with their rising young core Alex Sarr and Kyshawn George. In Davis, the Wizards are getting an all-around player capable of making plays on both ends of the floor, blocks shots, rebound, and provide internal stability and anchor in the front court.

Together with Young, Davis allows Washington to try and compete in what is supposed to be a wide-open East next year. It remains to be seen if Davis will sign an extension with the franchise, but this is a step forward in the right direction for them.

For the Mavericks, this move recalibrates this season to turn and build around rookie Cooper Flagg by acquiring draft assets. Flagg has emerged as the team’s brightest spot this season and Dallas will now move forward with him in mind, securing the future and beyond.
