Wizards' Justin Champagnie Reveals What Fueled Him To Trash Talk Twin Brother

Justin Champagnie was more than ready to get some revenge on his twin brother Julian Champagnie.

On Monday, the Champagnie twins faced off as Justin's Washington Wizards hosted Julian's San Antonio Spurs for an interconference matchup at Capital One Arena.

The memory of their last proper professional clash was still fresh on Justin's mind. The two had played each other during a preseason contest in October 2023 when Justin was signed to the Miami Heat.

"When I played in Miami, he did the same thing to me," said Champagnie during Monday's postgame press conference. "He hit a three and it was a whole big thing. And I was like, 'Alright, I'll never live that one down until I get him back.'"

Given that it was Victor Wembanyama's first NBA preseason, that Heat-Spurs exhibition game was on TNT. Julian's moment was seen on national television.

At the 3:30 mark of the first quarter, Julian spotted up on the left wing, received a crisp pass from Tre Jones, and let one fly as his brother was late to close out. Julian celebrated in Justin's face as the two ran back the other way.

It was only fitting that Justin got an identical opportunity during Monday's game . Justin got a pass from Malcolm Brogdon on the left wing and launched one in his brother's grill. Was there any doubt that it was going in?

The game may not have been on national TV. But unlike Julian's from two years ago, Justin's bucket counted in an official NBA box score.

Whatever Justin said also drew a big smile out of Julian as the two jogged back down.

"I'm not going to share what I said," said Justin when asked about his message to Julian. "But just know, I let him have some words and I'm going to leave it at that."

The Spurs ended up winning the contest 131-121. But for now, Justin has the edge in the battle of the brothers.
