Wizards wing Justin Champagnie underwent surgery on Wednesday to repair a fracture in his right foot, The Athletic’s Josh Robbins reports (Twitter link).

The team hopes that Champagnie will be able to return by the All-Star break, Robbins adds. He suffered the injury during the first quarter of Monday’s game in Charlotte. He had already been ruled out of Wednesday’s game against Cleveland by the club prior to determining the severity of the injury.

The surgery, which was performed in New York, was confirmed in a team press release.

Champagnie has been in the Wizards’ organization since the 2023/24 season after stints with Toronto and Boston. He has received steady playing time over the past two seasons, including 69 appearances (19 starts) last season, when he averaged 8.7 points and 5.6 rebounds in 20 minutes per game. Champagnie was part of the second unit entering this season and posted a double-double (11 points, 14 rebounds) against Chicago on Saturday.

Champagnie’s $2,667,944 salary doesn’t become fully guaranteed until Jan. 10. The team holds a $3MM option on his 2027/28 contract.

His surgical procedure coincides with the debut of top pick AJ Dybantsa on Wednesday. The loss of Champagnie will impact the team’s forward rotation but the Wizards should still be in good shape with Anthony Davis and Dybantsa backed by Bilal Coulibaly, Khris Middleton and Will Riley.
