The Wizards have re-signed forward Jamir Watkins to a two-way contract, according to the NBA transactions log.
Washington declined its $2.15MM option on Watkins, a 2025 second-round pick, and extended him a $2.39MM qualifying offer prior to free agency. That made him a restricted free agent.
The Athletic reported afterward that the Wizards would likely retain Watkins, and they’ve done so via a two-way deal. It’s unclear why Watkins didn’t wind up signing the QO and remaining on the 15-man roster, but it’s possible the Wizards could offer him a standard contract at a later date.
Watkins originally signed a two-way contract last July. He played a limited role at the NBA level during the first half of the 2025/26 season. However, he became a rotation regular for the tanking Wizards down the stretch of ’25/26 and was promoted to a two-year standard contract at the end of February.
Watkins averaged 7.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.1 steals in 50 games (20.6 minutes per contest) as a rookie. The New Jersey native was selected 43rd overall in last year’s draft.
