Shortly after the Indiana Pacers won Game 6 of the NBA Finals, Tim McConnell spoke to NBA TV about his pride in seeing both of his children play professional basketball at the highest level.
Tim's son, TJ, was a vital piece off the bench amid the Pacers' spectacular run to the Finals. His daughter, Megan, was a rookie with the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, undrafted this year following a strong college career at Duquesne.
But things have changed quickly for the McConnells. Amid an Achilles injury to star player Tyrese Haliburton, the Pacers lost Game 7 of the Finals to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday. And on Thursday, the Mercury waived Megan McConnell, who played 13 minutes of one game for Phoenix.

Megan McConnell left Duquesne as one of the best players in the school's history. The guard ranks second in program history in points and rebounds, and holds program records for games played, games started, steals, assists and triple-doubles.
After leading the Dukes to the round of 16 in the WNIT, McConnell joined the Mercury as a training camp invitee. She signed a contract with the team earlier this month before debuting on June 3, in an 88-65 loss to the Minnesota Lynx.
McConnell scored three points, provided three assists and recorded one steal before departing with a right knee injury.
McConnell was set to miss at least three weeks due to the injury, but the Mercury on Thursday revealed that she has sustained a tibial plateau fracture, which carries a three- to four-month recovery time.
The franchise is aiding in her rehabilitation in the meantime, and it remains to be seen if another WNBA team will take a chance on McConnell in 2026.
