You Need to Believe in the Miami Heat

I am a Miami Heat fan. No, I am not from Miami, but I started watching basketball because of 2012 Miami LeBron. 15 years later, at the age of 21, Miami has a lifelong fan.

This is the most hopeful anyone should be about the Miami Heat since LeBron left, and that’s including the two finals appearances in recent years with Jimmy Butler. The reason is those teams really came out of nowhere. In 2023, the Heat became the first team to ever make the finals from the play-in tournament. 

In 2020, the Lakers looked unstoppable.

The reason to be so hopeful now is that Giannis Antetokounmpo gives someone that Miami has not had in a long time. Someone who on any given night, could be the best player in the world.

Don’t get me wrong, Jimmy Butler was absolutely incredible, but he was never more than a top 10/15 player in the league who happened to be an amazing playoff performer. Giannis is, at worst, the 5th best player in the NBA. And the only reason he’s down there is due to injuries and recent playoff failures that were not fully on him (shoutout Doc Rivers). 

Miami Heat Superstar Track Record

The thing is, the Miami Heat have a nearly spotless track record when they get superstars.

Every superstar has come to the Heat and gotten a ring. Shaq comes to the Heat, and he gets a ring in year 2. LeBron comes to the Heat, and he gets a ring in year 2. Even Jimmy Butler, who was not a superstar, still got two finals appearances.

The Heat capitalize when they get star players, and this is not going to be an exception. Giannis is going to be playing with arguably the best defender he’s ever played with in Bam Adebayo. 

He will be playing for the best coach he’s ever had in his career, by far, and he will come to an organization that refuses to tank, even if it has contributed to the struggles post-2023 finals appearance.  This will likely be the last Miami Heat era that involves Pat Riley, and he is not going to let it end without another championship ring in his already overflowing trophy case.

The Heat still have a young piece or two. The team has championship experience. And contrary to what people are saying, they have multiple capable shooters. It might not be this season, but even LeBron and Shaq did not get their Heat ring until year 2.  So, whether call it delusional or not, you need to believe in the Miami Heat.
