The ongoing saga surrounding the weight of New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson took a new turn this week.

Williamson, 21, has yet to play in a single game this year. After coming into preseason and suggesting that his return to play was imminent, the former Duke standout has struggled with one health setback after another.

Ever since his arrival in the NBA, the presumed cause of all of Williamson’s injury woes has been his weight. Specifically, the fact that his body simply cannot support all of the mass he was on carrying.

Well, it appears as though Williamson has finally gotten the message. This week photos surfaced of the youngster looking about as skinny as he ever has.

The pictures are worth a thousand words:

That’s quite a departure from where Williamson was at just a couple of months ago. You will recall, when photos of him at his biggest hit the web folks went absolutely nuts. It appears the backlash has convinced him that he needs to change things up.

This week Williamson returned to New Orleans after spending the last few months rehabbing in Oregon. The news came just a few days after it was reported that his fractured right foot was improving and that he was preparing to slowly progress to full weight-bearing movements and hoops activities.

That’s welcome news for the Pelicans, who obviously expected that he would play in more than just the 85 games he has participated in since being drafted in 2019.

Over the past year Williamson has been linked to one other team quite prominently. The expectation has been that he will eventually leave New Orleans in favor of brighter lights. But in order for something like that to ever materialize, he needs to establish himself as a legit player in the league.

Now that Williamson is getting skinnier, hopefully the next step is him getting healthy and back onto the court.

Will fans ultimately get a chance to see him at some point this season? Time will tell.
