Zion Williamson posterizes Victor Wembanyama on very first play of the game

Zion Williamson reminded the world on Thursday that Victor Wembanyama isn’t the only freak of nature roaming NBA courts near you.

Williamson’s New Orleans Pelicans hosted Wemby’s San Antonio Spurs in both teams’ second game of the young season at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Pelicans won the tip — which is a feat on its own against the Spurs’ 7-foot-5 franchise center — and got first crack at putting the ball in the basket.

Zion did not waste his opportunity. The Duke alum navigated through some screens and challenged the Frenchman right at the rim.

In a rare moment, Wembanyama lost the paint battle as Williamson went right into the gangly defender’s body for a poster dunk.

Here’s another angle of Williamson’s highlight drive against Wembanyama.

Wembanyama was fresh off his out-of-this-world season debut, wherein he emphatically dropped 40 points on the Dallas Mavericks. The Spurs center was dunking on everybody and making 7-footers like Anthony Davis and Dereck Lively look tiny. The performance had Hall of Famers already crowning Wemby the MVP of the season.

Williamson may have wanted to steal some of that spotlight away from his fellow No. 1 overall pick. In the process, he snatched a piece of his soul as well.
