The NFL offseason can feel like it drags on at times. Luckily, there is one piece of news coming out this week that can get fans invested once again. That piece of news is the release of the 2024 NFL schedule.
Slowly but surely, the biggest national games on that schedule are getting revealed. One of the most anticipated games is the opening game to kick off the 2024 NFL season. So, which teams have the honor of participating in that game? Read below to find out.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the 2024 NFL season opener will have the Kansas City Chiefs host the Baltimore Ravens. This will be a rematch of the AFC Championship game that took place last postseason. It will take place on Thursday, September 5th, at 8:20 p.m. EST.
In that AFC Championship, the Chiefs defeated the Ravens to advance to Super Bowl LVIII. Kansas City went on to win the Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers. We all knew that the Chiefs would be in this game since they won the Super Bowl last season. Now, the NFL has decided to offer its fans a huge playoff rematch right out of the gate.
As mentioned above, the Chiefs defeated the Ravens in the AFC Championship last year to advance to the Super Bowl. Many argue that this was a very disappointing performance from Baltimore given the circumstances.
For one thing, the Ravens were the top seed in the AFC by a wide margin. However, the Ravens only scored 10 points in the entire football game.
There was one notable play that arguably cost Baltimore a chance at a Super Bowl appearance. This was a fumble by WR Zay Flowers at the Chiefs’ 1-yard line that ended up being a touchback. It took a potential touchdown off of the board for the Ravens.
The full 2024 NFL schedule is expected to be released on Wednesday, May 15th at 8 p.m. EST. This is when Chiefs fans, Ravens fans, and other NFL fans can find out when they are playing other opponents this season.
However, expect some notable national TV games to get leaked before the full schedule release. We are likely to find out about games such as the Thanksgiving slate, Christmas Day slate, Thursday Night Football slate, and Sunday Night Football slate before then.
