As a first-year head coach, Brian Schottenheimer isn't exactly getting the warmest of welcomes from the NFL. That's because the Dallas Cowboys are set to open the season visiting the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1 and then hosting the New York Giants in Week 2.
Art Stapleton from North Jersey reported the Cowboys-Giants on Wednesday morning.
In the NFL, no games matter more than those against your division rivals, as those go a long way in determining tiebreakers at the end of the year. To open the season with back-to-back divisional matchups means Schottenheimer won't have time to ease into the job in his first year calling plays with the Cowboys and first year ever leading a franchise.

Now granted, Schottenheimer wouldn't wanted any other way. He's waited over a decade as offensive coordinator to land a head coaching job. What better way to kick off his HC career than facing two division rivals to start the 2025 season.
The full 2025 NFL schedule will be released Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET. So far, reports have emerged on the following Cowboys games:
