Strengths

A stout presence against the run, Alexander is a nightmare when it comes to trying to drive him out of the way in the ground game, and double-teams rarely do much to help. He has a strong anchor, quickly digging in and setting up the rest of his frame to hold his ground, and using his length to keep opposing blockers from getting into his pads and moving him off his spot. He can win with both speed and power as a pass rusher, and he’s an impressive overall athlete with solid lateral movement ability. Alexander has the size and overall skill set to play from a wide range of different alignments, giving him a ton of scheme versatility when projecting him to the next level.

Weaknesses

At this point in his development, Alexander is still more of an athlete than a technician when it comes to his pass-rushing ability, winning with pure power or explosiveness more than a refined set of moves. Against the run, Alexander can be just a step behind when it comes to reading the play and reacting accordingly to put himself in position to make a tackle. He has some dominant reps on film as both a pass rusher and a run defender, but needs to prove he can play at his ceiling more consistently.

Final Analysis

The potential is there for Alexander to be a complete defender who can dominate on all three downs as both a run defender and a pass rusher, but he’ll need to play more consistently on a snap-by-snap basis and polish his technique if he wants to reach his lofty ceiling. His strong showing during Senior Bowl week proved what he’s capable of against top competition.
