2025 Pittsburgh Steelers win total, prediction

The Pittsburgh Steelers are having a busy offseason, highlighted by moves to sign quarterback Aaron Rodgers, trade for wide receiver DK Metcalf, cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith and trade away safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and WR George Pickens.

Even with the roster upgrades, sportsbooks project the Steelers to be close to a .500 team in 2025-26.

Regular-season win total: 8.5 (BetMGM

Outlook: The Steelers are going to look much different in 2025 than they did last season. After the failed Russell Wilson-Justin Fields experiment, Pittsburgh cut ties with both quarterbacks and took a swing for the fences by signing Rodgers to a one-year, $13.65 million contract. Rodgers is an upgrade from last season's duo, but he ranked 24th among 32 qualified quarterbacks in success rate (44.3 percent) last year and turns 42 in December.

If Rodgers can turn back the clock, he has plenty of offensive weaponry at his disposal. Metcalf, who recorded at least 900 receiving yards and five touchdowns in each of his six seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, will be the clear No. 1 option in the passing game. Veteran WR Robert Woods and tight ends Smith, Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington will serve as the tertiary options.

The running back room is also deep, with Jaylen Warren presumably leading the way and Kenneth Gainwell and rookie Kaleb Johnson mixing in. This offense is loaded with talent, but its success will hinge on offensive coordinator Arthur Smith's play-calling and Rodgers and Metcalf staying healthy.

On the other side of the ball, the Steelers need to find a way to satisfy T.J. Watt's demands. Watt, who's led the NFL in sacks in three of the last five seasons, skipped mandatory minicamp and continues to hold out as he seeks a contract extension. Considering the Steelers are 79-44-2 with Watt on the field and 1-11 without him, they should be happy to match whatever number he wants.

Assuming Watt gets his wish and suits up for Week 1, this should be one of the top defenses in the NFL with Ramsey, defensive tackle Cameron Heyward, cornerback Darius Slay and linebacker Alex Highsmith running the show.

According to Warren Sharp of Sharp Football Analysis, the Steelers have the ninth-toughest schedule in the NFL in 2025-26. Aside from playing in the loaded AFC North, Pittsburgh also has non-division games against the Seahawks, Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Chargers, Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions.

Our take: The Steelers have been a model of consistency ever since Mike Tomlin took over as the head coach in 2007. Pittsburgh has never gone below .500 in 18 seasons with Tomlin at the helm. As long as Rodgers, Watt and Metcalf can stay healthy, we expect more of the same in 2025. | Predicted win total: 10
