2027 NFL Jets Draft: College Players to Watch Today
IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect

As any New York Jets fan knows, Gang Green will enter the 2027 NFL draft with a bevy of picks, highlighted by their three first-rounders.  The Jets of course will have their own first pick, the Colts first pick, and whichever pick is higher between the Packers and Cowboys.  The Colts pick comes from sending Sauce Gardner to Indy and the Cowboys or Packers pick from sending Quinnen Williams to Dallas.

With all of those picks in mind, let’s take a look at some of the players worth watching in today’s college action.

And yes, we could do the no-brainer thing and just list every draft eligible quarterback coming out in this year’s class, but we’ll pick just a couple of signal callers for reasons other than “he’s a quarterback and the Jets need one”.

Notre Dame QB CJ Carr vs North Carolina:

Jets GM Darren Mougey has flown out to watch Carr twice already this season.  North Carolina has been a disappointment since bringing in Bill Belichick, but he’ll still deploy some pro looks on defense for Carr to contend with.

Iowa C/G Kade Pieper:

Pieper was projected to move from guard to center this season but he’s stayed put and dominated at guard.  Today will be his toughest test as Iowa takes on Ohio State.   Pieper’s movement skills, power and mean streak should translate to any opponent, but the Buckeyes will provide him his biggest test to date.

Miami QB Darian Mensah vs Clemson LB Sammy Brown:

Mensah has been playing absolutely out of his mind this season with an 88% completion percentage while facing defenses with very few NFL prospects.  That won’t be the case against Clemson so this is a big opportunity for Mensah to show what he can do against a credible defense.  Clemson linebacker Sammy Brown should be one of the top ‘backers taken in the ’27 draft where the Jets have a huge need.

Watching Brown sit in the middle of that Clemson defense playing cat and mouse with Mensah should be a good watch between two players who are among the best at their position in the country.

West Virginia RB Cam Cook vs Iowa State:

Cook set the world on fire for Jacksonville State last season, rushing for over 1,600 yards and 16 touchdowns before transferring to a bigger program at West Virginia.  Through the early part of the season we’ve seen him average over five yards per carry.  In a weaker running back class this season, Cook could climb draft boards if he keeps it up.  And if Braelon Allen doesn’t show he belongs this season, they could target a back come draft time.

A quick “throw in”:

Stanford QB Davis Warren vs Wake Forest:

Davis won’t be on anybody’s radar in round one, but he’s a fun watch for any team that may be looking for a solid option later on.

Look at the box scores for Warren this season and it’s a mixed bag.  Watch the film to see how well he has thrown the ball and it looks quite a bit different.  The Michigan transfer’s receivers have dropped more balls than any team in the country with a whopping SEVENTEEN!  Warren shows a quick release, more than adequate arm strength and plus mobility.
