The Chicago Bears enter Week 7 looking to build on their momentum as they prepare to face the New England Patriots on Thursday night. With Caleb Williams finding his rhythm and the defense continuing to create opportunities for game-changing plays, Chicago has several ways to attack the Patriots. However, the Bears will need contributions from multiple players to secure another win against a 4–2 New England team.
Three bold predictions stand out heading into this matchup, including a breakout performance from Colston Loveland, a turnover-filled outing from the Bears defense, and a big night for Luther Burden III. Each prediction carries some risk, but if Chicago executes its game plan, these players could play pivotal roles in determining the outcome.
Loveland and Williams have developed a strong quarterback-to-tight end connection, and that chemistry was on full display in Week 6. The Patriots will want to keep Chicago’s young wide receivers under control because of their big-play potential. That could leave Loveland with favorable matchups over the middle of the field.
Loveland will take advantage of New England’s off-ball linebackers and eclipse 120 receiving yards. He will work in sync with Williams to find openings in the Patriots’ zone defense, particularly when plays break down and the two connect on scramble drills.
The Bears defense has a knack for creating disruption and generating turnovers. New England, meanwhile, has shown a tendency to give the ball away. Although the Patriots have taken better care of the football in recent weeks, facing Chicago’s aggressive defense will present a difficult challenge.
Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen will want his unit to remain aggressive and force turnovers. The Bears will wreak havoc by attacking the football and pursuing splash plays early and often. Chicago will force five fumbles, creating multiple opportunities to swing the game in its favor.
Burden is emerging as one of head coach Ben Johnson‘s preferred weapons in the wide receiver room. He can make plays on the boundary, but his versatility makes him particularly dangerous in the slot. That flexibility allows Johnson to deploy him in a variety of ways and create mismatches for opposing defenses.
Burden will find the end zone twice against New England. He will catch one touchdown pass before Johnson dials up a creative rushing play to get him into the end zone again. If the Bears want to keep the Patriots’ defense guessing, using Burden as both a receiver and a ball carrier could be an effective way to do it.
