3 Free Agents Named Targets The Eagles Must Consider Signing

The Philadelphia Eagles have continued making some changes to their already strong roster during training camp. Most recently, the linebacker position has been revamped as they signed veterans Myles Jack and Zach Cunningham to deals.

But, the linebacker position isn’t the only one that could use some shoring up. The Eagles lost a lot of talent this offseason on the defensive side of the ball, including defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon, who took the head coaching job with the Arizona Cardinals.

One position that could use some more depth in the opinion of Jake Rill of Bleacher Report is safety. He suggested John Johnson as the bargain free agent to target, but Johnson signed a deal recently to return to the Los Angeles Rams.

While he was the best option remaining, he isn’t the only veteran that could help out the Eagles. Duron Harmon, Lamarcus Joyner, Nasir Adderley and Tony Jefferson are all free agents and could provide value to Philadelphia as veteran depth and insurance.

On the other side of the ball is where Rill’s two other suggestions were. The first is offensive guard Dalton Risner. Surprisingly, Risner remains a free agent at this point as he brings starting experience and has provided solid production thus far in his career.

Right now, the Eagles are counting on 2022 third-round pick Cam Jurgens to step into a starting role to replace Isaac Semualo, who signed a free agent deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. If Jurgens cannot handle the new role, Risner is someone that could step right into the lineup and succeed.

Last but not least, veteran wide receiver Sammy Watkins was listed. The Eagles are set atop their depth chart with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, but it wouldn’t hurt to add another proven playmaker to the mix behind them.

Right now the No. 3 job is being battled for by Olamide Zaccheus and Quez Watkins. Zaccheus was a free agent signing earlier this offseason from the Atlanta Falcons, so the team likely has a plan in place for him.

But, Watkins has more experience than those two players combined and would provide insurance in case something happened to Brown or Smith. He still possesses some big-play ability, averaging 20.3 yards per reception last season and 14.8 in his career.
