Here are three Pittsburgh Steelers who could be on the outside looking in following the 2026 NFL Draft, and who need a big training camp to stick around in Pittsburgh.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have assembled a roster that they hope will bring them past a round one playoff exit and give them their first playoff win in a decade in 2026. After an active free agency and 10 picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, the roster is in a good spot, with the uncertainty at quarterback being the main lingering question after the draft.
So when you have that many players on the roster, you obviously have to trim to 53 players. We have projected what the Steelers’ 53-man roster will look like come September, and now it’s time to see which players are cut candidates after the 2026 NFL Draft.
The Steelers signed Homer during the later waves of free agency to be a key depth piece and special team ace following the loss of captain Miles Killebrew. Perhaps that role keeps him safe, but I have to wonder what the drafting of Eli Heidenreich with the Steelers’ final pick means.
Heidenreich is a replacement for Kenny Gainwell, in my opinion, and I think he’s a candidate to not only make the roster but to make some noise on offense. That could leave Homer as the cut candidate in Pittsburgh’s backfield.
Trice has dealt with a ton of injuries and just hasn’t been able to get it going in Pittsburgh. When the Steelers brought in Jamel Dean, it was clear that the Steelers were finding a starter opposite of Joey Porter Jr.
However, the Steelers used pick No. 85 on the future of the position, drafting Georgia CB Daylen Everette. There are also names like Jalen Ramsey, Asante Samuel Jr., and more that could make the decision tough in Pittsburgh.
The Steelers didn’t draft a stacked backer, but that could be a sign that they believe in what they have in the room. The Steelers deployed Harrison as a starter for much of the 2026 season, but maybe this is the year that Payton Wilson takes the next step.
Behind them are Cole Holcomb and Carson Bruener. Somebody in that group of five could be on their way out, and it might be Harrison.
