3 Trades Steelers' GM Omar Khan Must Consider

The Pittsburgh Steelers suffered a disappointing Week 4 loss to the Cleveland Browns, exposing several areas of the roster that could use immediate attention. While one loss does not mean Omar Khan needs to overhaul the team, the defeat highlighted some legitimate depth concerns.

With injuries mounting and some position groups struggling to consistently produce, the Steelers could benefit from exploring the trade market. Here are three players Pittsburgh should consider calling teams about as Khan looks for potential upgrades.

Carrington Valentine

The Steelers showed interest in Carrington Valentine at one point before the season began. Perhaps now they will revisit that possibility and find a way to shore up a suddenly very, very thin cornerback room. Jamel Dean‘s injury remains unclear in terms of his recovery timeline.

However, the Steelers still need some veteran presence and depth after trading Joey Porter Jr. Pittsburgh should seriously consider trading for Valentine. He hasn’t played many snaps on the Packers’ defense, but he could provide what the Steelers need at cornerback. He has shown the ability to play both on the boundary and in the slot.

Budda Baker

This wouldn’t be the kind of swing for the fences it might have been years ago. However, the Steelers have a dire need to upgrade their safety room. Chances are Pittsburgh will roll with its current options once DeShon Elliott returns, but Baker is at least an upgrade over Rayshawn Jenkins, right?

Baker hasn’t been stellar over the past two seasons. However, he has spent the majority of his snaps playing free safety. Pittsburgh simply needs a serviceable player at that spot. The biggest issue to consider with this candidate is his cap hit. Would the Arizona Cardinals absorb some of that money in exchange for a Day 3 pick?

Brian Thomas Jr.

Previously, we looked at the possibility of Marvin Harrison Jr. coming to the Steelers in a trade. Perhaps Thomas could be a more viable option. Since his rookie season, he hasn’t flourished under head coach Liam Cohen. Why? No one is entirely sure.

However, Thomas remains a very talented player, and some fans may have wanted Pittsburgh to select him in 2024 instead of Troy Fautanu. The Fautanu pick has paid off, but Thomas could have helped solve some of the Steelers’ wide receiver woes. After Michael Pittman Jr.’s performance in Week 4, Thomas may be worth monitoring.
