The San Francisco 49ers resolved one of their wide receiver-related concerns by activating second-year player Ricky Pearsall from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list Sunday.
Pearsall had been dealing with a hamstring strain from the team's OTAs and minicamp phase of the offseason. The injury was never thought to be a major issue, but he was cautiously eased into training camp recovery, and now makes a full return to the field.
"We're not going to throw a wideout out there the first three days," head coach Kyle Shanahan about slowly integrating Pearsall into camp. "We don't want to pull it again until we see his conditioning and everything, which we should get in three days, and then he should be good."
He debuts in Santa Clara at 49ers training camp ahead of what is expected to be an expanded role for the former first-round pick this season.
With star wideout Brandon Aiyuk sidelined with a torn ACL until at least the midway point of the season, Pearsall will be called upon to make a major impact for Brock Purdy and the Niners offense. He joins George Kittle, Jauan Jennings, and a healthy Christian McCaffrey in the backfield as Purdy's top targets to start the new year.
As a rookie in 2024, Pearsall saw just four starts in his 11 games played. He caught 31 passes for 400 yards and three touchdowns.
With hopes of seeing production in 2025, Pearsall has switched jersey numbers for his second season in red and gold. The Florida product has gone back to his college-worn No. 1 instead of the No. 14 uniform he wore last year.

"Back to it!" Pearsall said with a smile as he made his way onto the field Sunday.
The next roadblock ahead related to the 49ers' receiving corps is coming to terms on a new contract with Jennings, who shined in 2024 with 975 yards, taking full advantage of his extra increased role after Aiyuk went down in Week 7.
The four-year vet expressed interest in a new contract or a trade as he enters the final year of his current deal. He has been a regular participant at training camp and seems to be in good spirits with Shanahan and general manager John Lynch, so an extension should be coming soon.
