49ers Announce WR Move After Deebo Samuel Update

The San Francisco 49ers have managed to put together a hot start to the 2026 NFL season, despite a significant flurry of injuries across multiple position groups. After their first loss of the season in Week 7 to the Atlanta Falcons, the 49ers entered the bye week 6-1. Sitting in first place in the NFC West, the San Francisco will now prepare to face the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 9.

The 49ers’ offensive production is especially impressive given the injuries that have plagued the wide receiver room. Nearly the entire starting receiving group and many of their main rotational pieces have suffered injuries this year that have caused them to miss time.

After spending the 2025 season with the Washington Commanders, wide receiver Deebo Samuel returned to the 49ers in the offseason. However, his season has also been impacted by a hamstring injury. Samuel has been sidelined since he suffered the injury in Week 5, but before going down, he caught 16 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan indicated that Samuel is among several injured players who have a chance to return for the matchup against the Raiders.

The 49ers will continue to monitor Samuel’s progress this week, but they have also added another depth option at receiver. According to Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC, the 49ers signed KhaDarel Hodge to their practice squad.

Hodge has made his impact on special teams throughout his career, earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2024 with the Atlanta Falcons as a special teamer.

Hodge is unlikely to step into a major offensive role, especially if Samuel returns this week, but he provides another experienced option while the San Francisco receiver room works its way back toward full strength.
