49ers expecting flurry of reinforcements following bye week

The San Francisco 49ers were handed their first loss of the season at the hands of the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday and are entering their bye week at possibly the best time.

Following up with media on Monday, head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that a large chunk of the Niners' injury report has a chance to play on Nov. 8 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Kyle Shanahan names eight players who could return after 49ers' bye week

Shanahan named Nick Bosa, Mike Evans, Luke Gifford, Marques Sigle, Garret Wallow, Demarcus Robinson and CJ West with the potential to return in San Francisco's next game.

Shanahan continued, saying that Upton Stout was suited up for emergency purposes on Sunday, but is hopeful the bye week will bring the second-year cornerback back into the lineup.

While the reinforcements would help strengthen the lineup, the returns of Bosa, Evans and Robinson in particular would help two hurting position groups.

San Francisco was clearly lacking at receiver on Sunday as the unit only accounted for seven of Brock Purdy's 27 completions and 14 targets of Purdy's 40 throws. The returns of Evans, the 49ers' leading WR, and Robinson, who was looking efficient in his two games before going down to injury, will, if anything, help things on the field for Purdy and Co.

Bosa's return will aid a slumping pass rush that seemed to finally hit its wall on Sunday, only pressuring Falcons QB Michael Penix on 9% of his drop backs, allowing him to throw at will.

49ers will not make a change at this struggling position

While the makeup of the San Francisco roster will certainly differ on Nov. 8 than it did on Sunday, one position that won't see any changes, or competition, is at kicker.

Eddy Pineiro missed his fourth extra point of the season, and seventh overall in two seasons with the Niners, on Sunday and coupled with his three missed field goals is most in the NFL this season.

While Pinerio vows to "go back to the tape" during the bye week to try to fix things, he was the first 49ers kicker since Ray Wersching in 1986 to miss a kick in five straight games and holds this dubious stat in terms of extra points.

While he's safe for now, Pineiro is digging up old Jake Moody wounds for 49ers fans and it would be a shame if this season were to be thrown away on a missed kick.

Luckily for the 49ers, the only loss was in the standings

In a rarity for San Francisco, there was only one sacrifice to the substation to report and it's best-case scenario for one of its star players.

McCaffrey exited the game after "having his leg die on him" during the second quarter of Sunday's game. He was a key part of the offensive gameplan early on and his absence led to the eventual turning point of the game. Regardless, seeing the word "mild" and having an extra week of recovery is a huge sigh of relief to fans who have to be jaded on injuries by this point.

This bye week will be critical to the 49ers' success in terms of healing, wheeling and dealing and rebounding from their recent skid. It is do or die if the team wants to win the Super Bowl come February.
