49ers get clarification on Nick Bosa's lingering knee issue

Injuries and the San Francisco 49ers are like bread and butter— they just go together.

That's why, given his injury history, it wasn't much of a surprise — though it was definitely worrisome — to know that Nick Bosa was dealing with some knee tendinitis. It was even worse to know that the issue stemmed from an injury he suffered in high school. 

Nevertheless, Bay Area radio host Larry Krueger echoed head coach Kyle Shanahan's sentiment. On "49ers Collective," Krueger argued that concerns about Bosa's condition are overblown, and he doesn't think it should hold him back at all this season.

Nick Bosa's knee injury might not be a concern 

“I’m not saying there’s no discomfort there,” Krueger said. “I’m just saying I’m not worried. They don’t sound like they’re worried. If you said to me, ‘Do you think it’s legit or bogus?’ I think it’s bogus. I think it’s bogus. I think this guy’s got no more guaranteed money on his deal.”

If anything, Krueger argued that this could stem from the 49ers being cautious with him because they know they can't replace him right now. Also, with no more guaranteed money left on his deal, they can move on from him after this season.

“They’re just limiting their exposure,” added Krueger. “Limiting his exposure so they don’t have to play him and potentially get him hurt because they don’t realistically have anything close to him as a backup. He’s fine. He’ll be there Week 1. He looked amazing. That’s my read.”

Bosa is one of the best pass-rushers in the league when healthy, but he only suited up for a handful of plays last season. He's struggled to regain top form after earning Defensive Player of the Year honors, and if holding him out of practice will help him stay fresh for when it actually counts, so be it.

Whether they'll look to extend their partnership remains to be seen. But given how much they've been hurt by injuries and his steep financial aspirations, that will definitely be a tough decision to make.
