49ers Get Mixed Bag of Injury News On Saturday

It seems like no team in NFL history has dealt with as many injuries as the San Francisco 49ers have over the last two seasons. Almost every day there’s some new injury revelation to deal with.

On Saturday, the team was hosting another day of training camp ahead of preseason Week 3. To no surprise, there was more injury news. This time at least, it wasn’t all bad, but it definitely wasn’t all good either.

Some Good, Some Bad

The good news is that several players returned to the field on Saturday.

Running back Jordan James, who has missed most of training camp with a rib injury, was back in action. Fellow running back Kaelon Black also returned earlier this week, so the running back room looks much better than it did.

Right guard Dominick Puni and defensive tackle C.J. West both returned to the field after dealing with concussions, which is a good sign. Puni is a critical piece on the offensive line, and West is fighting for a depth spot on the defensive line.

Now we’ll move over to the bad news.

Standout rookie wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling missed practice with a new shoulder injury, as did cornerback Deommodore Lenoir. Both players are considered day-to-day, but we’ve heard that about injured 49ers in the past. Stribling and Lenoir are both crucial to the team’s success in 2026, so these injuries have everyone holding their breath.

Fellow cornerback Renardo Green, who suffered a hamstring injury in the second preseason game, also missed practice. Nick Bosa, Robert Jones, and Christian McCaffrey all missed practice as well, but McCaffrey was seen working on the side by himself.

The injuries in the secondary are especially concerning. The unit isn’t that deep in the first place, so injuries to two starters is concerning. Veteran Jack Jones did look very solid in the last preseason contest, so that alleviates some concern, but there’s no denying that Lenoir and Green will still be needed.

It’s nice to see the running back room looking healthier. Of course, the main piece, McCaffrey, still isn’t running at 100%, but those around the team continue to insist the veteran will be ready to go.

Finally, the Stribling injury is another one to watch closely. Stribling has been one of the most productive receivers in the league this preseason, and he’s been praised all summer. The team will rely on Stribling more than expected now that Ricky Pearsall is out for the season.
