San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch met with Bay Area reporters on Tuesday afternoon for his annual pre-draft availability. The team has officially reported for the start of its offseason program, with the 2025 NFL Draft set to kick off Thursday night in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

The biggest 49ers storyline this offseason continues to be contract extension talks with quarterback Brock Purdy, who is expected to receive the largest deal in franchise history. The 25-year-old reported to the team on Tuesday, a sign that negotiations may be moving in a positive direction.

While Lynch didn't reveal many specifics—both sides have kept details of the negotiations private—he offered an encouraging update.

"I think there's been some substantive talks that have this thing going in a good direction, and I'll leave it at that," Lynch said.

As for Purdy's decision to join his teammates in Santa Clara this week, Lynch added, "That's Brock. He's a pro. Brock's very clear-minded, and not going to let other people influence what he should be doing. It's one thing everybody, I think, respects about Brock. He's done a lot for this organization, and we're grateful for him and looking forward to having him as our quarterback for a long time."

Tight end George Kittle did not report for the start of offseason workouts. However, all activities before the mandatory June minicamp, including the organized team activities (OTAs) that start next month, are voluntary. Kittle has previously noted that he typically doesn't return to Santa Clara this early in the offseason, so there is no reason for concern just yet.

Still, there have been reports that the 49ers and Kittle remain far apart in their contract extension discussions. However, Lynch stated that the two sides have had "good communication" and "good talks," adding, "We'll see on that."
