49ers' John Lynch provides Mike Evans injury update

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Mike Evans was among the players working on the side during Monday's practice, the first of three practices this week before the team travels to Australia for its September 10 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.

Evans will likely continue working on the side as the 49ers prepare for their lengthy overseas flight. However, it sounds like the team is optimistic that the veteran receiver will be available for the Week 1 matchup against its NFC West rival.

49ers general manager John Lynch joined Bay Area radio station KNBR on Tuesday morning. He provided an update on Evans, who has missed recent practices due to injuries, raising concerns about how much the 33-year-old receiver will contribute in 2026.

"We've got some solid work throughout the off-season," Lynch said. "He ran into a little hiccup with his adductor, but he's working really well to the side, and hope to get him back here early next week.

"And if all goes well, he'll be suiting up and making plays for us, and that's all the guy's done throughout his career."

Evans is entering his 13th NFL season. Before an injury-marred 2025 campaign, he had surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first 11 NFL seasons. That's the Evans the 49ers hope to get in 2026.

"I don't like talking about players [and the] Hall of Fame because we're focused on one thing. That's for after football," Lynch said. "But this guy's production year after year after year has been just phenomenal. And then, you obviously are looking, okay, how's he looked in the last couple of years? And the answer is really good.

"Mike is a tremendous addition. I think he fits what we do exceptionally well. Really never had a guy like him—that tall, that big, who can run the route tree, and made us extremely interested in him. And when we found out that the interest was mutual, we couldn't have been more thrilled."
