49ers' Nick Bosa compares Brock Purdy to Scottie Scheffler, minus one obvious difference

San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa compared teammate Brock Purdy to two-time Masters champion Scottie Scheffler on Tuesday, minus one important detail.

After the Niners selected Purdy with the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Iowa State product had a stunning run at the end of that season that earned him the nickname "Mr. Relevant."

He then led the NFL in passer rating (113.0) and yards gained per pass attempt (9.6) last season, among other categories, while making his first Pro Bowl. Purdy also finished third in touchdown passes (31) and fifth in passing yards (4,280) while tossing just 11 interceptions across 16 games.

The 24-year-old helped lead San Francisco to a Super Bowl LVIII berth against the Kansas City Chiefs and ended the playoffs with a 61.1 completion percentage for 774 passing yards, three touchdowns, one interception and an 88.3 passer rating.

Only one year after suffering a UCL tear in his right elbow during the NFC Championship Game against the Eagles, Purdy not only led the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance but finished sixth in the AP Comeback Player of the Year voting as well.

He was sixth in the AP Offensive Player of the Year voting and was in the MVP conversation for much of the campaign, finishing in fourth place.

Entering just his third season this fall, Purdy is set to earn $985,000 in 2024.

The 27-year-old Scheffler turned pro in 2018 and was named the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year for the 2019-2020 season.

He became the world's No. 1 in March 2022 after winning that year's Masters. He then tied for second at the 2022 U.S. Open and tied as the runner-up at the 2023 PGA Championship.

The University of Texas at Austin product was the PGA Tour's money list winner in back-to-back seasons from 2021-23 and was the tour's Player of the Year in both campaigns. He's racked up $19.2M in career earnings.

Scheffler won his second green jacket in April, but things took a bizarre for him during the recent PGA Championship.

Early Friday morning, he was arrested by Louisville Metro Police after he attempted to drive into the entrance of Valhalla Golf Club, the host of the year's second major.

The arrest came just hours ahead of when the second round was scheduled to begin, but action was delayed after a shuttle bus struck and killed a pedestrian outside the course.

Scheffler was "detained by police in handcuffs after a misunderstanding with traffic flow led to his attempt to drive past a police officer into Valhalla Golf Club," per ESPN's Jeff Darlington.

The insider wrote that the police officer "attempted to attach himself to Scheffler’s car, and Scheffler then stopped his vehicle at the entrance to Valhalla."

"The police officer then began to scream at Scheffler to get out of the car. When Scheffler exited the vehicle, the officer shoved Scheffler against the car and immediately placed him in handcuffs."

According to ESPN's Mark Schlabach, Scheffler faces charges of second-degree assault of a police officer (a felony), third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic. The latter three charges are misdemeanors, according to the report.

Scheffler was released at 8:40 a.m. ET and competed in the remainder of the tournament, finishing tied for eighth.

It was reported on Monday that Scheffler's arraignment had been delayed until June 3. On Tuesday, Louisville mayor Craig Greenberg said that the city's police department will investigate whether its officers followed proper protocols.
