Jed York’s Ohio arrest as part of a prostitution sting this summer has brought NFL consequences. The league handed the 49ers owner a six-game suspension Friday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.

The league also fined York $500K. York having been away from the 49ers during their first three games — while an NFL investigation proceeded — will count as time served, according to The Ringer’s Tom Pelissero.

“Today, the NFL concluded its review, and I accept its decision in full,” York said in a statement. “To my family, to the players, coaches, and employees of the San Francisco 49ers, to our fans and partners, I am deeply sorry. This was an inexcusable mistake and I take full responsibility. What I did does not reflect my values or the man I strive to be for my family.

“While I fell short of the model I want to set for my sons, I now hope to show them the importance of owning up to one’s failures, and that even our worst moments teach us to be better. Leading the 49ers is a privilege, and one I don’t take lightly. Your trust will have to be earned back over time, and I look forward to that work ahead.”

York, 46, was arrested on suspicion of engaging in prostitution in East Palestine, Ohio, in August. He was found guilty on two misdemeanors, the other a charge of possessing criminal tools. He was taken into custody by the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force when he arrived at the trailer park with the cell phone he used to arrange the meeting.

Owner suspensions in the NFL are certainly not as significant as player bans. Players lose out on game checks and can see future guarantees voided as a result of suspensions under the personal conduct policy. For owners, these situations amount to merely bad publicity. York will be eligible to return for the 49ers’ Week 7 game.

The nephew of former 49ers honcho Eddie DeBartolo Jr., York took the reins as 49ers CEO in 2008. York officially bought out the shares of his mother, Denise DeBartolo York, in 2024 and was approved as 49ers principal owner. York is a Youngstown, Ohio, native
