The San Francisco 49ers held their third training camp practice on Friday, just ahead of the players' scheduled day off on Saturday. One notable absence caught the attention of reporters—quarterback Brock Purdy was not on the field.
Fortunately for 49ers fans, Purdy's absence was not injury-related. Instead, he is away for personal reasons, and there is no cause for concern regarding his health or availability moving forward.
Nothing alarming. Sounds like there's a good chance Purdy will be back for the #49ers next practice Sunday. https://t.co/J00Ra4cbkI— Eric Branch (@Eric_Branch) July 25, 2025

With Purdy out, Mac Jones and Tanner Mordecai will receive extra reps during Friday's session, giving the 49ers' coaching staff additional opportunities to evaluate their quarterback depth.
The 49ers also selected Kurtis Rourke in the draft, but the rookie quarterback began training camp on the non-football injury (NFI) list as he continues to recover from an ACL surgery performed in January.
Purdy is entering his fourth NFL season and is coming off signing a five-year, $265 million contract extension, making him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL. The 49ers are looking to rebound from a disappointing 6-11 season in 2024, which marked their first playoff absence since 2020.
Purdy is expected to return for Sunday morning's practice as San Francisco continues to ramp up preparation for the 2025 season.
