2021 rookie Trey Lance spoke with media members on Thursday as the new starting quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers and offered high praise for veteran signal-caller Jimmy Garoppolo, whom Lance has replaced atop the team's depth chart during training camp.
Lance's latest practice as the club's QB1 did not go as desired.
According to David Bonilla of 49ers WebZone, Lance went 3-of-10 with an interception during Friday's team drills and was calm yet honest when assessing the offense's overall performance during a conversation with Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports HQ.
"There's always going to be ups and downs," Lance remarked. "I'm kind of more worried, at this point, about how we respond. I thought it was a little bit sloppy today, for sure, on my end, but we're going to keep getting better. It's only day three, so we've got a lot of work to do."
All of Lance's practice sessions will inevitably be scrutinized by insiders and fans, alike, amid supposed questions and concerns regarding his "arm fitness." The 22-year-old attempted only 71 regular-season passes as a first-year pro and completed 41 of those throws (57.7%) for 603 yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed for 168 yards and a score.
