The San Francisco 49ers announced they have re-signed quarterback Tanner Mordecai, who was waived earlier this week, to a one-year contract. To make room on the roster, the team placed wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown on the injured reserve list. He reportedly suffered a foot injury this week during practice.

The move restores the 49ers' quarterback group to four—Brock Purdy, Mac Jones, Carter Bradley, and Mordecai.

The 49ers Communications staff provided the following rundown.

Mordecai (6-2, 218) originally entered the NFL after signing with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent on May 6, 2024. Mordecai was signed to the 49ers' practice squad on August 28, 2024, where he spent the season and was later waived by the team on August 4, 2025.

A 24-year-old native of Waco, TX, Mordecai attended the University of Wisconsin (2023) after transferring from Southern Methodist University (2021-22) and the University of Oklahoma (2018-20), where he completed 850 of his 1,281 passing attempts for 9,856 yards and 85 touchdowns to go along with 238 rushes for 657 yards and eight touchdowns. As a junior in 2021, Mordecai earned Second Team All-AAC.

St. Brown (6-5, 214) originally signed to the team on August 5, 2025.
