The San Francisco 49ers have finalized a crucial piece of offseason business, agreeing to a two-year, $50 million extension with All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams.

The deal includes $37 million in guaranteed money and a $22 million signing bonus, ensuring Quinnen Williams remains under contract through the 2027 season. With the agreement, Williams will surpass $400 million in career earnings—an unprecedented mark for a non-quarterback.

Extension Ends Months of Negotiation

Negotiations between Williams and the organization featured some uncertainty, particularly after the team declined a $10 million option bonus earlier in the offseason. Still, general manager John Lynch consistently maintained confidence that the two sides would reach a deal.

This one never got ugly,” Lynch said previously, emphasizing the mutual interest in finding a structure that balances Williams’ age with his elite production.

The extension also removes any lingering contract distractions ahead of the NFL Draft, allowing San Francisco to focus fully on roster building.

Elite Production Still Driving Value

Even as he approaches his 38th birthday, Williams continues to perform at an elite level. He recorded his 12th Pro Bowl selection and added another All-Pro nod in 2025, anchoring one of the league’s most efficient offensive lines.

Widely regarded as one of the best tackles of his generation, Williams remains a cornerstone of the 49ers’ offense and a key protector for quarterback Brock Purdy.

What the Deal Means for the 49ers’ Future

By securing Williams, the 49ers avoid a massive void at one of football’s most critical positions. The team lacked a proven replacement, and moving on would have triggered significant dead cap implications.

The extension also aligns with the team’s current championship window, keeping a foundational piece in place as they continue to contend in the NFC.

Williams has previously expressed a desire to play until age 40, and this deal keeps that possibility alive—while giving San Francisco stability at left tackle for at least the next three seasons.
