The San Francisco 49ers will open the 2026 season against the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne, Australia, marking one of two international games on their schedule.

The second international matchup will take place in Mexico City during Week 11. Until today, the opponent had not been confirmed.

One report states that the 49ers will host the Minnesota Vikings at the iconic Estadio Banorte on Sunday Night Football on November 22, 2026.

The game will be part of a record-setting nine international contests scheduled for 2026, spanning four continents, seven countries, and eight stadiums. The NFL has also committed to staging regular-season games in Mexico City through 2028.

The 49ers are one of 10 teams with marketing rights in Mexico under the NFL's Global Markets Program, which allows clubs to expand their brand and fan base internationally.

San Francisco has played four regular-season international games to date. The 49ers faced the Arizona Cardinals in Mexico City in 2005 and 2022, and also played at London's Wembley Stadium in 2010 and 2013. The team's only international loss came in the 2005 matchup in Mexico City—the first regular-season NFL game played outside the United States.
