Sixth-round pick CJ Daniels has also stood out, making an unexpected case to become the Rams' No. 3 receiver behind Puka Nacua and Davante Adams. Daniels, already bigger than the other players competing for that role, has been the most consistent rookie in camp, catching nearly every target thrown his way. He's also shown a level of focus that doesn't typically come this early in a rookie's development.

Sean McVay impressed with rookie

"He's done a good job," McVay said. "He's a mature rookie. I mentioned it in the spring when we talked about it. He's mature for a rookie. You can see he's come in with a no-nonsense mentality, but he enjoys football."

At quarterback, Stetson Bennett entered camp with three years of experience in the offense, expected to compete with Ty Simpson — the 2026 first-round pick and presumed quarterback of the future — for the primary backup role behind Matthew Stafford. Bennett has been the more impressive of the two so far, showing sharp command of the offense and earning no shortage of praise from the coaching staff. Simpson has had bright spots of his own, but hasn't matched Bennett's consistency as camp winds down.

The secondary overhaul has looked just as advertised. Free-agent signee Jaylen Watson and trade acquisition McDuffie have made plays from the outside, which has only elevated the play of safeties Kam Curl and Quentin Lake. That's part of why Stafford said the level of competition in camp has been as high as he's experienced.

"I'm surrounded by so many great players and I don't take that for granted, both on our side of the football and on the defensive side," Stafford said. "It's a blessing to come out here every single day and compete against these guys and play with the guys on the offensive side of the ball, so just an exciting time."

He pointed to Monday's practice as an example, when Puka Nacua and McDuffie traded plays on one side of the field while Davante Adams and Watson did the same on the other. At one point, the defense intercepted Stafford — and the offense answered soon after with an explosive play of its own.

"That's as high-quality practice football as I've been around," Stafford said.
