It was not an easy game by any stretch of the imagination, but the Philadelphia Eagles were able to pull out a 24-20 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night to start the season 1-0.
It was all about the running game with over 150 yards, including Jalen Hurts leading the way with 62 yards and two touchdowns. The Eagles got some breaks with Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb with some critical drops in the game.
There will be some questions about the defense for the Eagles, but there were plenty of good performances from the team and some ugly ones as well.
It's hard not to include Hurts as a winner on this list, as he had adversity throughout the game with the defensive struggles. He showcased his Superman persona with incredible scrambles and laser-like point accuracy.
Hurts finished the game completing 82.6% of his passes for 152 yards while adding 62 yards on the ground and two touchdowns. Yes, it was a typical Hurts game statistically, but he looked great overall in the contest.
This one is an obvious choice for a loser. Carter started the game with an ejection after spitting at Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, and the Eagles didn't even take a snap on defense. A lot has to be said about the immaturity shown in Carter, and it cost the team big time as they allowed 119 yards on the ground.
It honestly didn't matter where it was, Saquon Barkley, Will Shipley, A.J. Dillon, or even Hurts running the football. The Eagles were going to find an open lane and hit it hard.
They finished with 158 rushing yards on 38 carries and three touchdowns. The second half was ugly, but the Eagles were able to run it out to clinch the win.
The Cowboys absolutely took advantage of Jackson being on the field, and he got torched. Whether it was CeeDee Lamb or even KaVontae Turpin, Jackson struggled with covering them as he gave them too much space in coverage.
Jackson was replaced late in the second quarter by Jakorian Bennett after suffering a concussion in the game, but he would return to the game. Philly has a big problem at CB2 that was expected against the Cowboys' receivers. That will have to be addressed in some capacity.
Love has to be given for Mann who was fantastic in the second half after not having a single punt in the first half. In his three punts, two of them were pined into the 20 yard-line. The best part? Turpin had zero returns, which is a massive win against one of the best returners in the game.
A lot of pressure was put on Davis to carry the load in the middle for the Eagles' defensive line after the Carter ejection, but he did the best he could in the situation. While Philly struggled against the Cowboys' running game, Davis held his own in pass-rushing and run-stopping situations.
He finished the game with six tackles, one tackle for loss, and one pass deflection. The hope is that Carter won't be suspended for it, but a commendable performance by Davis to do the best he could under the circumstances.
