The New York Giants were a little late unveiling their unofficial depth chart, compared to rival teams.

But when the Giants did finally unveil their depth chart, it opened the door for more questions.

Here are the six biggest takeaways from the Giants' unofficial depth chart reveal.

Jalin Hyatt Is a Backup?

The most surprising name placement was Hyatt's. The 2023 third-round pick, who by all accounts is going to be released, landed alongside Darnell Mooney as one of the Giants' second-string wideouts.

With so much being made of Odell Beckham Jr., Malachi Fields and upstart special-teamers like Braxton Berrios or Dalen Cambre, seeing Hyatt listed as one of the team's top-five wideouts is surprising.

He still may be a roster casualty, but it's less certain than it was before, especially since he is working on a new special-teams role.

Calvin Austin III Is on the Bubble

Austin was listed as a backup wideout behind Malik Nabers and in the same company as Hyatt and Mooney.

Still, as we covered recently, Austin's roster spot is no given. Even though Austin is listed as a third-stringer, Fields is going to make the team, and the fact that Hyatt is in the mix further clouds the wideout race.

Yet part of what makes Austin so alluring is his ability to play special teams. But he was listed as the backup punt returner behind Braxton Berrios.

JuJu Smith-Schuster Is Going to Get Cut

Smith-Schuster has been injured, which has limited his opportunity to practice. He was listed as a fourth-string wideout alongside special-teamers Ryan Miller, Xavier Gipson and Berrios, even though Smith-Schuster doesn't play special teams.

He may be released by Monday.

The Giants Have a Timeshare at Running Back

The Giants listed Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy Jr. as co-No. 1 running backs.

Part of that is surely due to Skattebo's recovery from a season-ending ankle and fibula injury, but it also speaks to Tracy's usefulness, since he has led the team in rushing in each of his first two NFL seasons.

Skattebo has predicted a 2,000-yard season for himself, but it's going to be hard for him to do so.

Greg Newsome II Is the CB2

The biggest training-camp competition is for starting cornerback opposite Paulson Adebo. The depth chart reveal shows Newsome as the starter, with Deonte Banks and second-round pick Colton Hood behind him.

Barring an injury, Banks is going to make the team, since he is both having a great camp and expects to be the team's primary kick returner. Hood will too, since the Giants can't cut their second-round pick.

But Newsome is holding the starting outside CB spot for now, at least until Terrion Arnold signs a contract.

Abdul Carter Hasn't Earned a Starting Role ... Yet

Carter is the Giants' most valuable player. He's having a great camp and has already started his campaign for NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

Yet, according to the unofficial depth chart, he and Kayvon Thibodeaux are co-starters at Sam linebacker.

Thibodeaux is almost certainly the backup, but it's surprising the depth chart doesn't reflect that. Perhaps it's to keep the fire lit under Carter, which would be good coaching, but it is also surprising to see Carter and Thibodeaux listed on the same line.
