The Pittsburgh Steelers and Aaron Rodgers are back for another season, and that alone should make the team's opponents nervous come September.
Going one step further, when you pair Rodgers with rookie wide receiver Germie Bernard, opponents shouldn't just be nervous. They should be absolutely terrified.
The Steelers snagged the Alabama product with the 47th overall pick in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Pittsburgh made a trade with the Indianapolis Colts to make it happen, and whenever a team trades up to get a player, you know that they did their homework. In the move, the Steelers got the 47th overall pick and the 249th overall from the Colts and gave up the 53rd, 135th and 237th overall picks.
All specifics aside, it was a move the franchise simply needed to make, and it greatly enhances their lineup heading into the new season. While the team traded for wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. in free agency, they had a strong need at the position, and that's where Bernard comes in.
During his two seasons with Alabama, Bernard played in 27 games and notched 114 receptions for 1,656 yards, a 14.5-yard average and nine touchdowns, according to Sports Reference. Imagine what he'll be able to do paired with Rodgers.
"We're very excited," offensive coordinator Brian Angelichio said of Bernard, according to the Steelers' official website. "Germie is a tremendous person. I was really impressed with him on his (Top) 30 visit. His energy, his character, his makeup, who he is as a person. A great football, real productive player. Had a lot of success. Comes from a great program with a lot of history and tradition."
Angelichio also said that Pittsburgh liked Bernard's "versatility" and the player's "flex to play inside and outside."
Considering that the Steelers went 10-7 last season and were No. 1 in the AFC North without the strong wideout support that they'll have this season, the sky is really the limit.
