After months of speculation, Aaron Rodgers has finally announced his plans for the 2025 NFL season.
Although the New York Jets struggled last season, Rodgers threw for 3,897 yards with 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He proved that he's still capable of being a consistent playmaker at the quarterback position. That being said, he only had one suitor willing to wait for him to make up his mind.
Despite rumors about Rodgers retiring, the Pittsburgh Steelers patiently waited for the four-time MVP to announce what's next for his career. On Thursday afternoon, their patience was rewarded.
According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Steelers will sign Rodgers before minicamp begins next week.
"Renegade A-Rod: Four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers informed the #Steelers he’ll fly to Pittsburgh on Friday and sign before next week’s minicamp, sources tell The Insiders. Finally, a done deal: Rodgers, 41, will play his 21st NFL season in black and gold," Pelissero said.
This news isn't that surprising. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said it was bound to happen.
"It would be a surprise if Aaron Rodgers is not on the Steelers right now. I'm not saying he's made his decision, I'm not saying retirement's ruled out... But it would be a surprise. Maybe a better question is just when," Rapoport said. "And to me the one that makes the most sense is the news will come out right before mandatory minicamp. Show up, little media, get on the field, get the playbook, see ya later, goodbye for the summer. Come back when training camp is starting and then everything is a go."
Most fans in Pittsburgh are thrilled about Rodgers joining Mike Tomlin's squad. Steelers legend Terry Bradshaw, however, won't be too happy about it.
"That's a joke. That to me is just a joke," Bradshaw said in regards to the Steelers possibly signing Rodgers, via CBS Sports. "What are you gonna do? Bring him in for one year, are you kidding me? That guy needs to stay in California. Go somewhere and chew on bark and whisper to the gods out there."
Only time will tell if Rodgers turns back the clock in Pittsburgh.
